Going on day 28 of my new year’s resolution to walk a dog (almost) every day. It’s the happiest resolution I’ve ever made, I think maybe because I got to it by thinking about what I wanted my life to be like in ten years and working backward to what I was missing now. I hope I always have walks in beautiful places with a canine buddy (swipe for a sampling of all the accountability photos I sent to my sister). The kids are in bed. I’ve got a sweet sleepy pup curled up next to me, and the beginnings of a mitten on my needles. I’m very excited for these mittens—I currently only have ugly, bulky mittens that I’ve had since high school, and these wool ones will be pretty *and* warm. But I’m trying not to think too hard about what they will be, and how excited I am to wear them, because I know that the more I think about it, the more difficult each stitch will become, until I can hardly bring myself to work on them at all. It’s a lesson I’ve learned from writing books—you have to take it word by word. Or stitch by stitch. (To be completely real though, the sweet, sleepy dog promptly got up and cast me a disdainful look after I took this photo. She doesn’t believe in snuggling. Or social media). Alright, friends. I’ve gotta get less precious about this social media stuff when it comes to my book. Does anyone else also suffer from perfectionism, to the point that they’d rather just not do it if they can’t do it perfectly? 🙋‍♀️. Yeah, me too. That’s been the story with social media for me, so from here on out, I’m making it my goal to post once a week on a book-related matter, with any only photo from my camera roll and any old thought. Today’s thought: we’re moving and grooving on development, and trying to figure out what genre my story goes in as we start to think about advertising. Is it low fantasy? A proper romance? Young adult? Literary? It’s all those things, in ways, but none of them exactly. It’s a story about folks on the cusp of adulthood, with just enough magic to make it a ✨thing✨ but not enough to make it full on fantasy. It’s meaningful, but also fluffy. Anyway, those are today’s book thoughts. My question for you is: how much does genre influence what you read? Swipe for a teeny tiny smile (and more cute views from the days when the only way I could get stuff done was by wearing this guy around like a momma kangaroo 🦘 🥲 It’s the double wink for me 😉. #thirsttrap #knittersofinstagram #yarnswift #yarnswiftsofig #knitstagram #husbandsofinstagram Happy fourth birthday to this sweet boy 🎂. He just gets cooler and kinder and funnier with every passing day, and I’m so proud to be his mom ❤️ It’s been a bit since I shared a knitting update! Currently, I’ve overwhelmed myself by casting on a #silkyscallopslacescarf, a #ranunculussweater and Linden’s Christmas stocking, which is still on my needles. The scarf is also for Linden—he requested one after seeing Jordan wear his jammies around his neck like a scarf, and who am I to resist a cute knitting request? But I’m eager to wrap up these projects so that I can get started on my next endeavors—a #milesshirtjacket for myself and a #jaidensweater for Jordan! Halloween cuteness 🎃. Bonus points if you can spot the booger Introducing ✨sleepy alligator✨ a favorite game in our household. It goes back 25 years, to the days when I was a wee lass trying to escape the snapping jaws of the sleepy alligator. We jazzed up this version with a #piklertriangle and bridge, but in the days of old we just tried to run by the “alligator.” To play, all you need is a sleepy parent or grandparent who’s willing to lay on the floor and try to grab little feet as they go by. #sleepyalligator #childhoodunplugged #playwithyourkids #gamesathome #thisischildhood
