March

Posted on April 3, 2019November 21, 2019 by sbuckleit

(Whoops! It's April and I still haven't published this. I have a very bad habit of writing things and then squirreling them away forever, never to see the light of day. Trying to break that habit: here's March's post!) March, the month of damp earth and soft air, has arrived. As temperatures have warmed, my … Continue reading March →

Does everyone walk around secretly narrating their lives, or is that just us book obsessed folk? Alone or not—I’m very prone to viewing my life as a story. I’ll find myself thinking things like, “There’s no way I’ll die in a car crash on my way home tonight—that just wouldn’t make sense in the story.” (I might also be prone to #anxiousthoughts). Or I’ll read into things like rainbows and droughts, as if they’re literary symbols placed into the book of my life by some higher power (like the rainbow that we saw on our way to our first ultrasound while I was pregnant with L. It was storming, and I was bleeding and scared, and I’d already had one miscarriage, and then a rainbow peeked out from behind the clouds and I knew it’d be okay). The stages of doing laundry: procrastiknitting a #lyrasweater for Linden, sizing up the mountain of clothes to be folded, pushing it all onto the floor and going to bed instead, and finally, waking up early the next morning to fold it all with a cute buddy Writing about grief today on the blog—and the ways in which shared love and grief for a person can make the weight of it a little easier to bear. Find the link in my story! It's one of those days when I'd like to crawl right back into bed (and Minerva makes doing that look extra appealing). Theo the Bear is officially finished! Thanks to everyone who helped name him in my stories. This week, I’m sharing a blog post about where we’re at in the publication process and how my novel came to be. This shot was snapped the summer before I wrote my novel, right before I entered one of the hardest periods of my life (I elaborate more in the blog post, but be warned that I briefly mention pregnancy loss, so if this is sensitive for you, you might want to avoid!). Swipe to see how the crew has grown four years later ✨ [link to blog post in bio] Some people are born with old souls, but mine must be brand new. I've always wanted the exciting life things to happen all at once—I remember wishing so desperately that I could skip the now to step into the future. On hikes every step was exhausting, because I so fervently wanted to reach the view. I picked up knitting, but only had the attention span for short projects, and every knit or purl was excruciating as I waited to pull a finished hat onto my head. In high school I started a garden and got as far as clearing a patch of grass—I never even put seeds in the earth, because waiting to see if they would sprout was too agonizingly slow. How about a few farm fresh veggies as inspiration? This little bear has finally grown a pair of arms and a torso!
